• Old Omeath, Carlingford and Greenore

This beautiful area along the shores of Carlingford Lough is home to the legend of Queen Maeve of Connacht who fought Cù Chulainn and the men of Ulster for the brown bull of Cooley. Toursism is on the rise here and with good reason, Cooley Distillery produces some of Ireland s finest whiskey, the once famed oysters are being bred again in Carlingford Lough and the area has many a fine castle for the tourist to explore. Photographs of the area from the late 19th and early 20th century reflect the changes in fortune that wars and the Troubles brought to the region and the accompanying text gives an insight into the story of its folk.
