In this wonderful memoir, Eddie Melvin tells the story of a life well-lived.
From his upbringing at The Quay in Ballina through to his football career, his time with the
Oblates, deciding that vocation was not for him, onto college in Dublin, his career as a teacher,
you get a great sense of an action-packed life while his lifelong love for his hometown shines
through. There are great memories of growing up at the Quay, memorable trips to Bartra Island and a
great glimpse into life in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s.
It’s not just a memoir though. A full section is devoted to the history of the Quay at Ballina with
fascinating recollections which anyone with a connection to the area will enjoy.
