'The Battle of Tourmakeady' occured during the Wr of Independence on May 3, 1921 in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo.

Commandant Tom Maguire led the South Mayo Brigade, the IRA 'Flying Column' to ambush an RIC / Black and Tan patrol, the objective of which was to force the closure of Derrypark RIC Barracks. The IRA commander claimed that they were surrounded by 600 Brittish troops, but that they fought there way to safety, inflicting 50 casualties on the Brittish side. The Brittish side claim only one soldier was injured.

This book, for the first time, lays out the full details of the Battle and presents the reader with a comprehensive sequence of events.

As a point of note, upon attending the launch of this book, Dominic Price was inspired to write 'The Flame and the Candle' which is a book that examines the War of Independence in Co. Mayo in general.

Drawing on his military expertise, the author has produced a penetrating and unsettling study that raises serious questions about our understanding of the War of Independence and the sources we use. - Dr. Mary N. Harris, NUI Galway.

Please note that this book is only available in hardback.
