Dr. Michael F. Waldron (1876 - 1954), an almost forgotten historian, was one of the most foremost scholars in the history of Ballyhaunis and as an author, poet, playwright and antiquarian, he had a national reputation. Twice in his lifetime he was nominated for the Nobel Prize.
His personal papers, in the form of scrapbooks, notebooks and published writings, have been preserved and will be shortly made available in Mayo Co. Library.
This short biography to accompany the release of the archive was compiled as an act of dúchas, or dutifulness, in memory of a past resident of Ballyhaunis who did so much to develop his native town.
