'The Battle of Tourmakeady' occured during the Wr of Independence on May 3, 1921 in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo.
Commandant Tom Maguire led the South Mayo Brigade, the IRA 'Flying Column' to ambush an RIC / Black and Tan patrol, the objective of which was to force the closure of Derrypark RIC Barracks. The IRA commander claimed that they were surrounded by 600 Brittish troops, but that they fought there way to safety, inflicting 50 casualties on the Brittish side. The Brittish side claim only one soldier was injured.
This book, for the first time, lays out the full details of the Battle and presents the reader with a comprehensive sequence of events.
