• On Another Man's Wound

When the Easter Rising of 1916 broke out, Ernie O'Malley was a medical student in Dublin. Intially indifferent to the cause of the Irish Volunteers, O'Malley's feelings changed as he watched the progress of the rebellion. In late 1916 he joined F Company of the Dublin Volunteers and devoted the next seven yers of his life to the struggle for an Irish Republic.

O'Malley's dedication to the cause was quickly recognsied by the leaders of the Volunteers (later to become the IRA) and he was given the task of organsising or reorgansining companies, battalions, brigades and flying columns all around Ireland, reporting directly to Michael Collins and Richard Mulcahy. His ability and outstanding personal courage eventually led to his appointment as officer commanding the Second Southern Division, the second largest division of the IRA.

On Another's Man Wound, O'Malley's engrossing account of his involvement in the fight against British rule in Ireland, has deservedly become the classic account of the War of Independence.
