This is a timeless book, written in beautiful English, first published in the early 1900s and chronciles the life and travels of the Rev James Greer. It describes the towns and villages around the river Moy in wonderful detail and is an asset to anyone interested in reading about the lives of people at that time.

James Greer was born into a poor Protestant family at Scurmore, Enniscrone, in 1845, in the midst of the Famine. His father was a boat builder and small farmer, but he died when the children were young. His mother was unable to keep up the rent payments, and the family was thrown onto the side of the road.

He attended the school of the famous Rev. Edward Nagle at Skreen, won a scholarship to Kildare Place Training College, Dublin, and graduated with distinction from Trinity College. He was ordained in 1886, married in 1871, having snatched his sweetheart Mary Goodwin from the emigrant ship at Cobh. They had 8 children. He died in 1929 at the age of 84.
