Policing is a serious business. It deamands serious commitment and responsibility. Yet, amidst the trials and tribulations of police work, humour often blossoms. This book contains stories of events that happened on the beat, in the Garda Station and on car patrol. Some are funny, some are sad, all are true.
It starts with the Garda 'Hospital' in the Phoenix Park and travels through thirty years of policing around Ireland. Horses, dogs, goats, elephants are some of the animals on the journey through cities, towns and islands. It features chances and wasters, dropouts and good citizens, the bizzare and the bespoke, the strange and the curious. Welcome to a book about human nature!
Cyril Meehan is a native of Westport, Mayo. He served in An Garda Siochana for thirty years, in the footsteps of his father, uncle and grandfather. He worked in many parts of Ireland and retired in 2013 as a Detective Sergeant. This is his first book.
