Travels in Ireland, written by the German travel writer and historian, J.G. Kohl (1808-1878) was first published in 1844. Here we get a picture of Ireland after the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829 and immediately prior to the Great Irish Famine (1845-1852) making it a wonderful source book for both local and family historians. His journey took him through the four provinces including Dublin, Limerick, Waterford, and Belfast. Part One takes us from Dublin through Edgeworthtown, The Shannon Limerick, Edenvale and Kilrush.
