A compilation of the President's Europe themed speeches from 2016-2020. The speeches start off with the 1916 Centenary celebrations and then move on to the June 2016 Brexit decision which has made a significant impact on Ireland's relationship with the rest of Europe. Topics covered in the speeches are, interventions on historical aspects, bilateral cultural links, citizens' involvement in the European project, workers' rights and ecological concerns. With the current Covid-19 crisis, the European Union has been in the spotlight particularly with its role in providing aid to its member states . President Higgins addresses the Great Flu Epidemic of 1918-19 from a speech made in May 2019 and considers the role if European leaders in a letter to the President of the Hellenic Republic in April 2020. These speeches are marked by the Presidents' particular and personal stamp, while also expressing central concerns on behalf of Irish citizens.
