This book is the first full study of Daniel Corkery, a major controversial cultural figure in early twentieth century Ireland. A writer and a mentor to other writers, his highly uncompromising brand of cultural nationalism alienated some of the people whom he had most influenced. Drawing on much new material, including Corkery's private papers and previously undiscovered journal articles, the book gives an account of his early career and his involvement in the Irish Ireland Movement. It examines how that involvement released and shaped Corkery's talent, but ultimately constricted him.
