Gerald Goldberg played a pivotal role in the economic and cultural development of Cork and in -changing attitudes towards Irelands Jewish community. He began his life as an outcast, and throughout his legal career represented the downtrodden as well as the great and the good. He was -ultimately elected to be his citys First Citizen the first Jewish Lord Mayor of Cork.
Gerald Goldberg: A Tribute features recollections and essays from a variety of writers, historians, artists and -politicians who have come together to recognise the contribution Goldberg made to twentieth-century Ireland. These unique pieces were inspired by a life that interweaved with a host of events in Irish history from -nineteenth-century Jewish immigration, through the Spanish Civil War and right up to the present day.
