During the past 40 years I have been a postman in the Cloghan area, and on my rounds have had the privilege of becoming well acquainted with the people from the townland on both sides of the Reelin river, around Cloghan, Commeenm Ballykerrigan, Letterhillue and the neighbouring parish of Iniskeel.
Michael Gallagher, affectionately known as 'The Donegal Postman' is well known throughout Ireland for his weather forecasting using traditional methods. In this book, he discusses how he predicts the weather for the seasons to come by noting the behaviors of animals, insects and birds, as well as noting movements in the sun, moon and starts.
This is a fantastic book, that records the old ways of weather forecasting, long before today's advanced weather forecasting models were developed. It is an important piece of social history, as well as a useful weather forecasting tool.
The book is written predominately in English, but does contain some beautiful passages in Irish.
