Tony Donohoe was born in Liverpool in 1918 and came to Ireland in 1934 when his family returned home. Tony was a member of the Local Security Force during the war years. He was heavily involved in the establishement of the National Farmers' Association in Mayo; Mayo - Sligo Mart; North Mayo Historical Society; North Mayo Heritage Centre; Crossmolina Social Services centre and the Chronicle, Crossmolina's annual magazine.

Tony Donohue was a keen local historian and he chronicled in great detail the history of his ancestral area of North Mayo. He has already published a collection of local songs and poems 'In the Shadow of Nephin' and 'The History of Crossmolina'.
